Memorial Day = No school. (8

Kent made me go with him to a picnic in Colombia Park with his friends. We were actually supposed to go at lunch (so I turned down an offer to have Chipotle), but we ended up going at like ... 3. |: Anyhow, he made these rice balls and they were pretty good. I liked the one with the seafood-like fillings better; the other ones had pickled plum, and the taste was such a shock! I don't think I've ever had anything quite like it hahah.

Afterwards they played a little baseball.

Overall, it was alright I guess. It's just that Kent didn't talk to me that much, and his friends didn't talk to me, like, at all lol, so I felt really awkward being there. So I'd be lying if I said I wasn't relieved when we finally left.

When I got home, I was saying to Mom how lame it was that we didn't even go out for the holiday, so she asked me to look up some restaurants. She was in a sushi mood, but our usual place was closed, so she asked me to call Jen ("She's Japanese, she should know!") and ask her. Jen recommended Sushi Sakae (but it's take-out only, apparently) and Sushi Sumo. We called both places, and Sushi Sakae was closed, so we looked up directions and headed over to Sushi Sumo.

They have all these polaroids on their walls (like Tampopo!) AND A ROTATING SUSHI BAR! 8D

... But the bar was kind of crowded so we just had a seat at a normal table lol.

We ordered our usuals at Tampopo (Baked Salmon, BSC), plus a Vegas Roll, and their Flaming Joy Roll, which the waitress had recommended. It has this spicy orange mayo sauce, and I didn't like it much, but Mom really liked it lol. Pretty good, overall. I wouldn't mind coming back again. (:

Went Walmart shopping with Mom. o: She really wanted those Sketcher Shape-Ups, with the rounded heels, and there were some way cheaper ones at Walmart so yeah lol. She tried them on, said they were fun, and likened them to a rocking chair LOL.

What is becoming of me? Concealer? False lashes? Lash curler? I'm becoming feminine! o:

And then we went to Del Amo to look for a clutch and shoes. I tried on my recital dress again last night and realized it wasn't as long as I had remembered, so I have my prom dress! (: Anyway, we found this great clutch at Glitzy that matched my dress perfectly. Couldn't find any shoes, but we bought some from Payless anyway lol.

Around this time Jennifer called me, going "... Oh did I not tell you about today? Yeah do you want to do a run-through of hair for prom?" And I kind of already did that yesterday with Mom, but I wasn't doing anything else so I went over lol.

Prisca was armed with a curler and was doing everyone's hair. They'd already been there for like four hours, and Grace was the only one whose hair was even done. xP I went after her, and Prisca made it reeeeeeally curly. A little too much for my liking lol. x:

I got Roxy's treats and was making her do tricks. (8

Jen complained so much loll. She really didn't like what Prisca did with her hair. xD

... So then Prisca put it in a bun and everyone was happy yaaay.

Tiffany & Jen wrote poems for Estabrook for Writing Club (Jen's not in Writing Club so she wrote one just because, I think lol).

OCCACC Scholarship Dinner tonight. (8 It was at the Island Hotel in Newport Beach, so we left pretty early to drive over. Mom and Dad took millions of pictures as usual. Anyhow, the hotel was gorgeous. And I mean you expect hotels to look nice, but it was all just so fancy!

THE BATHROOM WAS SO NICE. It was huge! There was this whole waiting area with couches, and then another room with individual hand towels in baskets, and then the actual room with toilet stalls, AND THE DOORS WERE ACTUAL DOORS. It was so beautiful. (`:

There were all these waiters coming around, asking if you wanted something to drink or offering little appetizers. It was so cool, I've only seen this kind of stuff in movies! There was this one thing in a mini taco shell and it was so good. *____*

The actual dinner was pretty meh lol. It was really similar to the dinner at the Toyota Scholarship Dinner.

These old Chinese women need to dress their age. |: Seriously, the clothes some of these women wore were just ridiculous.

I felt a little out of place at the scholarship though, since almost everyone there was from the same school, or at least from the same area. I was the only one from Torrance. Mom found the scholarship in the Chinese newspaper, but they probably found it through their school.

I ... had such high hopes for the dessert. D: It tasted something like cranberry sauce.

Then it finally came time for the scholarship recipients to go onstage. The guy on the right's the president; we'd seen him earlier but totally didn't realize that. He's so young! He has braces! LOL.

That girl in the red two places to my right sat at our table; it totally gave me a shock when I first saw her. I thought she was Chelsea! It wasn't, but she looked a lot like her and dressed a lot like how she would lol.

I guess they asked this other girl who sat at our table to talk a bit about the scholarship, and as soon as she got up there, she introduced herself and was like "I'm the president of this, this, and this," and I was like "... lol wow."

It was kind of weird; they just gave everyone's certificates to certain random people and expected them to pass them out lol. So you can imagine it was kind of chaotic afterwards, when everyone was trying to get their papers.

Anyhow, we slipped out of there quickly after that and went home. (x

After we got home, Mom and I decided to practice my hair for prom. I didn't really know what I wanted, so she pulled out the hair curler (which we've never used before lol) Dan gave her and started curling my hair.

Our paper's (mostly) dried! 8D It turned out really nice actually (although not quite as nice as Kyle/Harry's paper; theirs was legit!)

I was watching episode one of Legend of the Seeker and -- oh what the hell MegaVideo. |:

Sadies pictures. (:
I was terrified with how they'd turn out (since we looked like tomatoes on the ones I took on my camera lol), but we look sexy. 8)

Enviro field trip today! 8D We're going to an air quality conference. It's also a late start today, but we have to board the bus around 8-ish, so I picked up Tiffany went to school around the time I normally do ... and got the first spot in the parking lot! It was such a proud moment I had to take a picture. (`:

We got there pretty early and it started sprinkling (I was wearing flip flops!) so Tiffany and I ducked into the office. They had our college flags posted up! 8D I found my name pretty quickly; it was right in the Records Office lol.

Anyhow, the conference was in the building in LA by the Staple Center. We were supposed to be in this one conference room for two presentations, but after the first one, we realized we had already seen the second presentation (it was the one with the broccoli-hair lady that we had during North's Earth Day assembly), so we filed out and just browsed around all these tables and displays.

We went by this one place where this black lady was demonstrating the effects of this filter she had. After a bit, she started asking us these questions and giving out t-shirts. On the third and last question, I was like 'okay, I gotta get this!' It turned out to be a true or false question, so I was like 'sweet, it's true!' Anyhow, the question was about standards for filtering systems, and I figured it had to be true because the question was so long and detailed, but I didn't just want to yell out the answer mid-question, so I waited til she was done and shouted out "True!" and then this white girl said "True!" almost the same time as me. And then the black lady was like "... Who said it first?" And all the white girl's friends were like "Oh yeah she said it first!" while all our North people were like "Annie said it first!" So then the black lady gave it to the white girl. And we were like "Awh what the heck, Annie answered it first. D:" so the black lady was like "... Oh did you answer it too?" and I said yeah. So she gave me a shirt too. C:

Then later, we got in line to go into this huge transporter thing with all these displays inside, when this asian guy comes up to us, asking if we're Chinese (I'm walking around with all these Koreans and Tiffany lol). So I'm Chinese, and the guy wants to interview me for this Chinese newspaper in Alhambra, and I'm like okay, but my Chinese sucks, and the guy says I can speak in English. 8D It was pretty cool; I surprise myself with how fast I thought of good answers hahaha. Like, he asked me what I thought about the conference, and I said that I thought it was good in how it made us more aware about the environmental situation we're in, especially since we're in LA and we have a huge problem with smog, and all the options we have to change it. And he asked what was the most interesting thing I'd seen here (and here I was like "oh crap," cuhs I wasn't particularly interested in most of this stuff lol), and I quickly referenced the filtering system table we'd seen, and I talked about how we have all this advanced technology that can combat it and stuff. 8D He asked me all these other questions and took a picture of all of us. (x

One of the things inside the transporter; it emitted sounds of some boats and birds and sea lions and stuff.

Afterwards, we grabbed some lunch (Jane complained about what she got, but Jane always complains so I just tuned her out lol) and listened to people talk on the above screens. They brought in all these eco-friendly cars that were being developed; they ranged from convertibles to tractors lol. (x

Later I went over to Arlington for the PTA meeting to accept my scholarship (Mom and I drove separately cuhs I wanted to stay and see some of my teachers; it's their Open House tonigiht). They had all these Adventures in Art pieces on display, and it actually looked pretty good! I remember being in Elementary school and not being able to appreciate any of the stuff we did because I thought it looked so bad lol. And I mean, none of the pieces were really good, but it still looked nice, having been done by kids. If that makes any sense.

The meeting went by really fast; Ryan and I kept praising it, saying this is how all meetings should be run haha. It was weird though, cuhs there was this fobby Japanese lady sitting next to Ryan asking him all these questions about the scholarship (thank goodness it was Ryan; I would've have had the patience to answer all her questions lol), and it got a little weird cuhs she then went on to ask where he lived and for his phone number, probably so she'd have someone to call on for help with her kids (although that makes no sense at all, since her kids are like. What, seven? And by the time she'll need Ryan's help he won't even remember who she is lol). But yeah, I kept teasing him that she was coming on to him hahaha. Anyway, we got some ice cream, as custom of their Open House's Ice Cream Social, and went off to search for our teachers lol.

Ms. Conway! I totally didn't recognize her at first cuhs I think she got a little chubbier hahah. She seemed really happy to see us; we were the first class she taught at Arlington after all. We were talking, and all these teachers Ryan and I had had retired; Mrs. Mand just retired last year, and Ms. Kagdis retired maybe the second or third year Ms. Conway was there. She said she might attend our graduation since apparently she lives right around the corner from North. The whole time Ryan and I kept saying to each other how old we felt, how small everything and everyone was.

I found Ms. Duncan (who went back to Ms. Fish a few years ago lol), and she turned around and recognized me instantly. She said "Annie! You're beautiful!" which was very awhhh. (`: She looks exactly the same. Said she was actually just thinking of me the other day, asked if I'd been writing any poetry lately (I forgot; I used to write a lot in her class, and I was in her poetry class the year she taught for GATE), and I don't really anymore, but I told her about the Shakespeare Award I won for Anderson last year, and she seemed happy.

And since Ryan went with me to visit Duncan, I went with him to visit his teachers. We went to Ms. Camberos class (we found a map which made it so much easier lol), and Ryan really didn't think she was gonna remember him, but she saw him and said "Omg! You were seven just yesterday!" and seemed really excited. And when we left her room I said to Ryan "See, she remembers you!" and he says "She didn't say my name once." Hahaha. Then we visited Mrs. Christie (I forget what her maiden name was) and she definitely remembered him and his name lol. Then she said something about how in 1st grade Ryan told her she hated her and tried to spank her LOL. And I asked Ryan about that and he said the story had been exaggerated over the years hahah and he vaguely remembered saying he hated her but he didn't know why cuhs he loved her as a teacher hahah.

Man, I feel old.

We started making paper in Enviro today! 8D Tina made the pulp for us (she is awesome); her mom wouldn't let her blend the pulp in a blender, so I offered to do it, but Mom wouldn't let me do it either lol. Asian moms.

They had the grand opening of Bantau Park, which is this little patch of grass by the P Wing (lol) dedicated to Bantau cuhs he's retiring after over 50 years of teaching after Sammy Saxon Awards practice today. It was nice, they had all these officials come and recognize it and stuff. Barth gave a speech, Grace Kim gave a speech (I was tearing up!).

The unveiling of the eagle.

I was kind of disappointed with Sammy Saxons today; I was really hoping I'd be able to win some more medals (and maybe a trophy, but that was kind of out of reach). I dunno, it just kind of felt like they gave it to people who seemed like they should win, if that makes any sense. I don't want to seem bitter since I don't know how they pick the winners, but it just felt like they were throwing trophies at Ken and Ryan. Which isn't to say they're not deserving, but I dunno. Like English; I always do better than Ken on tests and stuff. But then again I'm probably just being shortsighted and not considering everything. I was hoping I could win the science trophy, just cuhs I'm taking two science classes, and I'm doing reasonably well in both (well. In one; but I'm doing better than the majority in physics lol). It's weird though; all the medal winners were from our physics class. When Frank got called up as a medal winner he threw his hands up and said "What the hell!" LOL. Stuff like that really makes me wonder how they pick the winners.
